The anti-match-fixing operation reaches the third stage and ten search and seizure warrants are executed in four states soccer

Operation “Maximum Punishment”, carried out by the Public Ministry of Goiás, which is investigating the fixing of Brazilian football results, began its third phase on Tuesday.

Ten search and seizure warrants were executed in the cities of Goiânia (GO), Bataguaçu (MS), Campina Grande (PB), Nilopolis (RJ), Santana do Parnaiba (SP), São Paulo (SP), Volta Redonda (RJ). and Photoburanga (SP). There were no arrests.

The following games are under investigation by MP-GO:

  • Goiania 2 x 1 Aparecidense, for Goianiao in 2023;
  • Goias 2 x 0 Goiania, for Goianiao in 2023;
  • National 2×1 Auto Esporte, for Paraipano in 2023;
  • Sousa 4×0 Auto Esporte for Paraipano in 2023

Last year’s national championship games point to the second round. That state occurred in January and February.

The “maximum sanction” process began in February and has already resulted in sanctions being imposed on 12 players. The Series B matches came into focus after midfielder Romario, then at Villa Nova, became involved with a criminal organization in an attempt to fix the games.

As the investigation progressed, other names emerged, even targeting athletes from the country’s largest clubs, such as defender Eduardo Bowerman from Santos.
