The Amazon Fund, created in 2008, has received donations mainly from Norway and Germany
Swiss Federal Councilor Guy Parmelin announced on Wednesday (5) that Switzerland will start making donations to the Amazon fund. The announcement was made during the Brazil-Switzerland Investment and Innovation Forum on Infrastructure and Sustainability held at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Switzerland has yet to release a value.
The Amazon Fund, created in 2008, has received donations mainly from Norway and Germany. However, in the first year of the government of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL), in 2019, these countries stopped transfers and froze the amounts for new projects, maintaining only the already planned tariffs.
Switzerland joins the US and UK in announcing donations to the fund. The Swiss initiative was praised by Brazilian Vice President Geraldo Alcmin (PSB), who highlighted the importance of economic partnership and investment opportunities between the countries.
