Suárez shines, Grêmio wins América-MG comeback and proves himself in Brazil’s G4 Sport

With another bid by Luis Suarez, Grêmio defeated America-MG with a score of 3 to 1 on Thursday night, in Arena do Grêmio, for the 11th round of the Brazilian Championship, establishing himself in the G-4.

Suarez had a magical night in Porto Alegre. The Uruguayan even considered retiring, even going into the match and ending up being the club’s highlight from Rio Grande do Sul.

Because of the match in high style, he left the field and was applauded by the crowd. As a result, Grêmio reached 20 points, fighting hard for the first places. America-MG, in turn, is still inside the relegation zone, with eight.

the game

Needing a win to leave the bottom spots, America didn’t wait for Grêmio and decided to take a risk. In the sixth minute, Aloysio served from the edge of the area and hit the post. The Minas Gerais goal matured and happened in the 24th minute. After a corner kick Danilo Avelar went ahead on his own to make it 1-0.

Grêmio felt targeted and couldn’t get creative. Suarez even started out as a starting point guard, but the Rio Grande do Sul club continued to struggle to break through the opposing blockade. Everything became easier in the 33rd minute, when Eder received his second yellow card and ended up being sent off.

With another player, the Uruguay had space and made the difference. In the 39th minute, he made a beautiful pass to Betillo, who kicked it to equalize on the break.

In the second half, Renato Gaucho put the team ahead, and the tactic paid off. In the 15th minute, Rinaldo looked free and crossed. Villasante headed up and ran the score. Despite taking the lead, Grêmio did not lift his foot and scored the third goal in the 23rd minute. After a beautiful exchange of passes, Rinaldo gave it to Suarez to extend the ball.

The game almost turned into a rout. At 27, Rinaldo cut through defenses and took chances. Mateusz Caviccioli ripped across the bottom line. Then it was Suarez’s turn to arrive again. The striker hit the crossbar for the second time in the match.

The bombardment went on to the end, while America retreated and, discouraged, prevented the result from being more flexible.

In the next round, Grêmio will face Coritiba, on Sunday, at 4 pm, at their stadium, in Porto Alegre. On the same day, at 6:30 p.m., América-MG Internacional hosts the Arena Independência, in Belo Horizonte.
