The National Center for Energy and Materials Research (CNPEM), which houses the Brazilian Particle Accelerator, in Campinas (SP), opens this Wednesday (4) registration for the sixth edition of the Sirius School for Secondary School Teachers (Espem).
There are 60 vacancies for teachers in the disciplines of physics, chemistry and biology this time Five of them will target teachers from Latin American and Caribbean countries.
a Registration must be done via the online form Until October 24th. The school is free and includes full or partial assistance with transportation, accommodation and food for those selected to participate in 40 hours of activities held in Portuguese, the official language of the event.
The course will be held from 15 to 19 January 2024, and the aim is to encourage secondary school teachers from public (municipal, state or federal) and private networks in Brazil, Latin America and the Caribbean to transfer ideas from modern science to the world. The classroom where they work.
The project has been in existence since 2019, training 500 teachers from all regions of Brazil.

During the course, selected professors will visit CNPEM modules, including Sirius, the particle accelerator after which the project is named, and will be introduced to research and development in the fields of synchrotron light, bioscience, nanotechnology, biorenewable energy, and engineering.
The program includes demonstration classes, seminars, workshops, visits and panel discussions on current topics in the various fields in which the Center’s specialists work, with advice on how to transfer knowledge to the classroom.
Selection process 💻
For the selection process, teaching activity, participation in projects, events, Knowledge Olympiads, research or extension activities related to teaching will be considered, as well as motivation letters sent upon registration.
According to CNPEM, the class will be formed based on geographic diversity, gender equality and the teaching areas of physics, chemistry and biology, with priority given to teachers from public schools in Brazil and other countries in Latin America and the Caribbean.
