The astonishing discovery of the planet in 2016 that seemed like science fiction turned out to be untrue
An error in perspective may have led to the alleged discovery in 2016 of the planet HD 131399Ab, which would be the size of Jupiter and orbit at least three suns.
Recent observations revealed that what appeared to be a planet was in fact a distant object, likely a star light years away. In a retrieval published last Thursday (4/14) in the scientific journal ScienceIn this article, scientists have detected a “discovery” error of HD 131399Ab.
“It was a shock. A series of unexpected parameters caused the object in deep space to align in such a way that it looked very similar to a planet. In the end, more time and observations showed that it is not related to the star system.” cnet.
The problem is that the so-called discovery at the time made the exoplanet make headlines on websites and news around the world for being the most bizarre ever observed, as it orbits three suns.
It made Star Saga fans star Warsdirected by George Lucas, remembers the fictional home planet of Luke Skywalker, Tatooinewhich has two suns.
As Cnet explains, recent observations indicated that Kevin Wagner and his colleagues were already seeing something much further. Only after analysis over a longer period of time did it help confirm that the planet did not actually exist.
“Deep space is not static, and sometimes a very fast-moving star can line up in such a way that it can pass our usual tests of joint motion. This possibility has already begun to be considered in more recent studies, which is a positive result, in my opinion,” the American researcher tells the site.
So, for now, the idea of a world 300 light-years from Earth that blends sunrises and sunsets with different seasons may never be confirmed or remain in the realm of science fiction.
