We will see many actors and directors almost win an award at the Golden Globes, this Tuesday (10), or at the Academy Awards, on March 12th. The defeat is bitter, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel: Scientists have discovered that, V.I Awards of the staff in compthe losers who came close to taking first place become more likely to cooperate once they recover from the loss.

The survey, which was conducted at the University of Maryland in the USA, was published in the Academy of Management Journal.

According to the academics team, the experience of “almost winning” causes an immediate hangover, causing the losers to become more isolated in their work environments—especially when the winners have jobs in the same department.

However, this eases over time as the Losers get over their discomfort. Scientists have observed that over the long term, these employees become more receptive and cooperative cooperators proactive than it was before the awards were announced.

The researchers analyzed data from a large organization for the two months prior to and six months after the announcement of the organization-wide grand prize. They focused on the collaborative response of the non-winning candidates compared to others in general and the winners.

“On the one hand, they feel frustrated, angry, and disappointed that they didn’t win, but on the other hand, it becomes a motivation to do better and win next time,” says Hui Liao, a teacher involved in the study.

Liao understands that the role of managers is to investigate the feelings of employees and make the work environment a welcoming and stimulating place, even during difficult times.

“Managers can help non-winning candidates manage these negative feelings by showing appreciation for their contribution and offering support such as encouragement, feedback, and resources to help them achieve higher performance and better chances of winning in the future.”
