An outstanding group of students from the Federal Institute of Santa Catarina (IFSC), Jaragua do Sul Campus, has just reached an important milestone in the field of science and education in the region: this group has been selected to participate in the prestigious Telebrasil 2024 committee, in Brasilia. This event is a showcase of innovation and technology in Brazil, bringing together promising scientific projects. The student group’s achievement is the result of pioneering work exploring the potential of plantlets, which are small, highly nutritious leaves that have great potential for sustainable agriculture. The project developed by the students proposes an innovative solution for growing microgreens, plants that can be harvested in just five to seven days and have a higher nutritional content than traditional vegetables. It is worth noting that microgreens, because they require less water, space and time to cultivate, represent an efficient and environmentally friendly alternative to food production in a world where the demand for resources is increasing every day. Furthermore, by offering an affordable solution with low environmental impact and high nutritional outcomes, IFSC students demonstrate that innovation and sustainability can go hand in hand toward healthier, more responsible eating. This achievement reinforces the role of education as a catalyst for social and environmental change. Projects such as these are clear examples that investing in research and education generates deep and lasting impacts, training professionals and citizens committed to a more just and sustainable future. Congratulations to these amazing students, their mentors and IFSC.
