Rondonópolis (MT) has no Covid ICU beds in SUS and patients are transferred | Matthew Grosso

With the increase in the number of Covid-19 cases, Rondonópolis, 218 km from Cuiabá, no longer has Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds serving the Unified Health System (SUS). Therefore, people with severe symptoms of the disease should be transferred to Primavera de Leste, 130 kilometers from the municipality, for appropriate care.

Doctors interviewed for the report said that a patient’s situation could be exacerbated by moving for care.

The situation may have complicated that of Edsandra Pereira Coimbra Gomes, 47, who died of an exacerbation of Covid-19. She had comorbidities, but was careful not to get sick, according to her family.

Family members said the woman needed to be transported to Primavera de Leste for proper care.

The municipality and state have been contacted, but have yet to comment on reducing the number of beds designated for Covid-19 treatment.

Rondonópolis has 86 active cases of Covid-19, according to the latest bulletin from the state Department of Health (SES).

The latest monitoring report on the evolution of the epidemic showed that there are 88 intensive care unit beds approved by the SUS for the care of people with Covid-19. However, none in Rondonópolis.
