Regina Duarte made many enemies and battles broke out when she accepted the position of Minister of Culture in Jair Bolsonaro’s government in 2020. The actress admitted that she was not ready for the role and that she had asked the former president to leave the position. The artist also highlighted that she does not plan to return to the small screen, but wants to direct theatre.
“I wasn’t ready for it. That was my biggest problem. My interest in doing something for the country’s culture made me do something I wasn’t ready for. I was very sad about the dream I had of doing something important for it.” Category. But I couldn’t do it,” he said in an interview with journalist Lida Nagel.
She added: “I knew I wouldn’t be able to do it. So, I said to myself: ‘Well done, look!’ You participated in the position of Minister of Culture without having the ability to do so.”
“In the few meetings we had in the corridors of Brasilia, he… [Bolsonaro] He looked at me and said, “This is not for you, no.” When I went to have coffee with him to ask him out, he said, “We have to find something for her,” and suggested that I stay at the Cinemática de São Paulo, because he had to disguise himself as “Why are we here?” Do you take Regina? You’re taking Regina away, no! Regina wants out, she wants to be close to her grandchildren [são sete, ao todo]”He remembers in São Paulo.”
Moreover, the actress has been away from soap operas since 2017, when she terminated her contract with Globo: “I’m not thinking about returning to television. But of course, if something comes up that I haven’t done yet, so be it.” “It has to be something great, that awakens passion. But I love the idea of directing.”
“I love those stories, I’m fascinated by them, and I feel like I’m not alone. A lot of people love them. If that happens [o convite] This is something that means to me an important message to my fans and to Brazilian society, of course I will accept it.”
Currently, Regina Duarte devotes her attention to the visual arts, and has produced more than 500 paintings, in addition to having an exhibition at a gallery in São Paulo.
“It’s still a silly tone, but I believe in the intention there. Why would I buy paper and cardboard if I can find cardboard all the time and every day on the streets being thrown away? It will be of some use, so let him have fun with me.” It’s funny. I thought: ‘Great, she left Globo and now she’s collecting cardboard,'” she said of the jokes after she was caught collecting recyclable waste on the street.
“I enjoy anything. I know that nothing has only one side. I believe in pluralism, I defend pluralism, I defend freedom of expression. How could I be angry at all this ridicule, all this ridicule they are doing to me?” “I have a story to back me up, I’m not just someone who’s popped up now. I’ve had a 70-year career, and I started early. I’ve got a lot of history there.”
