The North American government has launched an exhibition in Brasilia that will tour 20 Brazilian cities.
The US Embassy on Tuesday (April 9, 2024) opened the exhibition “Connected Roots: 200 Years of Friendship Changing the Future” with 35 photographs of the country and Brazil. It is part of the bicentennial celebration of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
The exhibition is free and will be on display at the English School until May 4 Thomas Jefferson House At Asa Sul in Brasilia. The venue is open from Monday to Friday from 8am to 7pm and on Saturdays from 8am to 12pm. From May 13 to June 8, he will be at the Casa Thomas Jefferson wing in Asa Norte, Brasilia.
The exhibition will travel to 20 cities in Brazil until the end of 2025.
Some of the cities are:
- Belo Horizonte,
- Manas,
- Bethlehem,
- Rio de Janeiro,
- Salvador,
- Recife and
- London.
The exhibition is curated by the Professor and Photo Coordinator Senac-S.BJoão Kulcsár.
The images were arranged to highlight the similar features of the 2 countries. For example, there are old photographs Ellis IslandNew Jersey, USA, was the first stopping point for European immigrants to America in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Along with photos of Ellis Island, there are also old pictures Immigration Museum, in Sao Paulo. It serves as an immigrant hostel that at the time fulfilled the same function as Ellis Island in the United States.
There are also side-by-side photos of groups from the United States and Brazil, such as indigenous peoples and people of African descent.
