Vision is definitely one of the most complex senses in the human body. It may sound simple, but for the brain to understand the image being displayed, there are many complex processes involved.
It all starts when light is reflected and entered through the cornea. It is then directed toward the pupil, and its function is to control the amount of light entering the eye. In the pupil there is a flexible lens that adapts to focus light on the right points of the retina, and it consists of light-sensitive cells called cones and rods.
They convert light into electrical signals, which are transmitted through the optic nerve to the brain. This is only the first vision process, which will now rely on information processing in the visual cortex to finally interpret what the eye sees.
