No one is working on Cyberpunk 2077 anymore!

CD Projekt RED has officially announced that there are no longer any developers working on Cyberpunk 2077. This was revealed during the company’s latest quarterly financial report, where it was made clear that most of the game’s post-launch support has already been completed. Any future updates will be minimal, indicating that the development company has moved on.

In a graph provided by CD Projekt, it was shown that on April 30, there were no programmers working on Cyberpunk 2077, which is a significant decrease compared to the 17 programmers still assigned to the game on February 29. On the other hand, the number of the team working on the Orion project, the second part of Cyberpunk 2077, increased from 47 to 56 people in the same period. This project is currently in the design phase and is primarily being developed by CD Projekt RED’s new North American division.

However, CD Projekt’s next big project, Project Polaris, the next major game in The Witcher series, is currently the company’s largest project. With 407 people working on the project as of April 30, the number is up slightly compared to February, when 403 programmers were involved. The company has stated that the RPG will enter full production sometime this year.

These days, CD Projekt is committed to releasing big games frequently. Its previous major releases include The Witcher (2007), The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings (2011), The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (2015), and Cyberpunk 2077 (2020). During the quarterly results presentation, questions were raised about the company’s ability to work on more than one major game at a time, in an effort to make its release calendar more consistent.

Mikał Nowakowski, co-CEO of CD Projekt, said the company already had experience managing multiple projects simultaneously, citing the development of the Phantom Liberty DLC for Cyberpunk 2077, in which nearly 300 people were involved. Currently, in addition to Polaris and Project Orion, the company is working on other projects, such as Project Sirius and the remake of The Witcher 1, which indicates a future acceleration in the pace of releases.

Updating the size of development teams for current projects was one of CD Projekt’s most notable financial results, which reflects the company’s ambitious strategy for the coming years.
