Nikki Haley slams Trump's rhetoric about black voters: 'Disgusting'

“Then I was indicted a second time, and a third time, and a fourth time. And a lot of people said that's why black people like me, because they were seriously hurt and discriminated against,” Trump said. “They really saw me as if I was being discriminated against.”

Trump's legal challenges, including federal charges over his alleged efforts to overturn his 2020 election defeat and how he handled classified documents, among other state charges and civil lawsuits, are very different from the historical inequalities Black Americans have experienced in the criminal justice system.

“It's disgusting,” Nikki Haley, the former South Carolina governor who was the target of racist comments from Trump, told reporters on Saturday. She promised to continue running for the Republican nomination.

She repeated her argument that Trump would lose the 2024 general election again to US President Joe Biden if he wins the party's nomination. “This is a big warning sign,” she said.

Biden won the Democratic primary in the southern state, where black voters matter and the electorate is more reflective of the more diverse public opinion that will go to the polls in the Nov. 5 presidential election, a potential rematch between Biden and Trump.

Opinion polls after exiting the polls showed that about 60% of participants in the Republican Party elections on Saturday were white voters who consider themselves evangelicals or Christians.
