Despite Mercedes’ slump for the 2022 season, Lewis Hamilton shared the focus of the Texan race with Verstappen in second place. Charles Leclerc moved from 12th to third, and on the podium, he took second place from RBR’s Dutch team-mate Sergio Perez.
A similar situation occurs in the current season: Perez COTA came second in the championship. However, he is only 29 points ahead of third-placed Hamilton. However, both left the Qatar GP with zero results – the Mexican crashed in the sprint race, started from the pit lane for repairing a car with too many spares and was penalized by track limits, finishing 12th.
The seven-time champion abandoned his first race of 2023 after colliding with teammate George Russell at the start at Lucille in a race won by Verstappen. With five rounds remaining in the season, 34 points are at stake this weekend in Austin alone.
