Netflix confirms the end of its basic ad-free plan in Brazil

Netflix will end the basic ad-free plan in Brazil. The confirmed change in the release of the company’s financial results for the third quarter of 2024 may occur later this year.

The service stated that it has already suspended the same plan in markets such as the United States and France and will do “the same in Brazil at the end of the fourth quarter.”

Why will Netflix cancel the basic ad-free plan in Brazil?

  • Netflix justifies in the report that this measure will be adopted in order to “increase engagement and add more value.”
  • “We are working to improve our monetization by improving our plans and pricing,” the document adds.
  • Finally, the platform says it is necessary to offer a “range of prices and plans” to meet consumers’ needs;
  • As mentioned before, the change should become official in the fourth quarter in Brazil.

What’s changing for Brazilian subscribers?

When the change takes effect, subscribers will have the following plan options in Brazil: “Standard with ads”, for R$20.90 per month, “Standard without ads” (R$44.90) and “Premium without ads” (R$59.90).

It is important to note that new subscribers no longer have the option to choose the basic plan since last year. Now, this measure also affects legacy customers who still have the plan active.
