A bipartisan delegation to the United States left for Cuba today (23) for a four-day visit.
247 – Deputy Salud Carbajal (California), Deputy Jahana Hayes (Connecticut), and Republican Jim Bird (Indiana) traveled to Cuba from last Saturday (19) to Wednesday (23). The United States Congress and its Agriculture Committee report Prensa Latina.
The visit included meetings with Cuban farmers, agribusiness companies and local officials to discuss the island’s current agricultural situation.
“We had the opportunity to meet with local farmers and experts to better understand Cuba’s own agricultural operations, as well as where there might be mutually beneficial economic opportunities for U.S. companies and the Cuban people,” the delegation said.
Members of the Agriculture Commission of the Chamber of Deputies held meetings with Cuba’s Vice President Salvador Valdés Meza, Foreign Ministry officials, and members of the Agriculture Food Commission of the National People’s Power (Parliament).
Besides agriculture, the delegation was interested in topics such as “human rights, migration and diplomatic issues,” according to a report of the visit posted on Carbajal’s website.
