The President of Venezuela made this statement upon his return from the bloc’s summit in Russia. The Brazilian government objected to entry into the country
The “B” in the abbreviation stands for “Bolivar” – the Venezuelan political leader who led the wars of independence in South America during the 19th century, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said on Saturday (October 26, 2024), upon his return from the BRICS heads of state summit. The speech is a criticism of Brazil, represented by the letter “B” in the abbreviation.
This speech was delivered upon his landing in Venezuela after Brazil used its veto over the country’s accession to the bloc during last week’s summit in Kazan, Russia. The South American countries distanced themselves diplomatically after the elections that took place on July 28 of this year, which resulted in the re-election of Maduro, which was contested by the opposition, international organizations and other countries – including Brazil.

Nicolas Maduro recently arrived in Venezuela and stated that “BRICS is written with the letter ‘B’ which stands for Bolívar, which is an ideological reference to the left. In the abbreviation, ‘B’ actually represents Brazil.”

After consensus among the ten BRICS member states, Russia invited 13 countries to participate in the organization as associate members. In Latin America, Cuba and Bolivia were chosen. Nigeria, Turkey, Malaysia and Indonesia were also cited as meeting the specified criteria.
Reaction to the veto
Last Friday (October 25, 2024), the Venezuelan Ministry of Foreign Affairs published a memorandum in which it stated that Brazil’s use of its veto against Venezuela constitutes an “aggression.”
“The Venezuelan people are indignant and ashamed at this immoral and inexplicable aggression by Brazilian diplomacy (Itamarate), which maintains the worst policies of Jair Bolsonaro against the Bolivarian Revolution founded by Commander Hugo Chavez.”He mentioned.
Celso Amorim, the president’s advisor for international affairs, told O Globo newspaper that this came during a phone call between the president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT) and Russian President Vladimir Putin, it was explained that Brazil’s veto against Venezuela’s entry into the BRICS countries was due to the fact that President Nicolas Maduro had abused Lula’s trust after the Venezuelan elections.
This is because the President of Venezuela did not fulfill his promise to provide official records of the results of the elections that took place this year in the country. Putin also said that Lula had asked the Russian leader to speak with Maduro, according to the newspaper.
“We know Brazil’s position, but we do not agree with it. Venezuela is fighting for its survival.”Putin told reporters during the BRICS summit. “I know President Lula, and he is a very respectable and honest man. I am sure that he will resolve the situation from that point on. He has asked me to speak with Maduro, and I hope that the situation will be resolved.”He mentioned.
