This is not the first time that Maduro has advanced the date of the celebrations. This practice is seen as an attempt by the president to divert the population’s attention to the political and economic tensions in the country.
In 2020, in order to raise the morale of Venezuelans amid the difficulties they face due to the Covid-19 pandemic and economic pressures, Maduro advanced the start of the celebrations to October 15. In 2021, for the same reason, the date was advanced to the fourth of the same month.
The announcement came in 2024 on the same day that the Venezuelan Representative (Public Ministry), led by Attorney General Tarek William Saab, a Maduro ally, issued an arrest warrant against Edmundo Gonzalez, the main opposition candidate.
