The memo stated that “the Israeli government continues to sabotage the peace process and the ceasefire in the Middle East.” The recent bombing in the Gaza Strip, which killed hundreds of innocent people, is unacceptable.

Lula’s government’s justification for accusing Israel

The Brazilian government’s accusation was prompted by the Israeli bombing of Khan Younis in the Gaza Strip on Saturday, the 13th of this month. At least 90 people were killed and 300 others were injured, according to local health authorities.

In light of this, the government said world leaders should not remain silent in the face of what it called the “endless slaughter”.

“It is appalling that they continue to collectively punish the Palestinian people,” the statement said. “Tens of thousands have already been killed in successive attacks since last year, many in designated humanitarian areas that should be protected.”

Call for ceasefire and peace on the international agenda

The memorandum also stated that a ceasefire and peace in the region should be a priority on the international agenda. The memorandum concluded that “all our efforts should focus on securing the release of the Israeli hostages and ending the attacks on the Gaza Strip.”
