London Fashion Week kicks off with a mix of Renaissance and grunge – entertainment

LONDON (Reuters) – Turkish designer Bora Aksu blended Renaissance and grunge in his latest women’s collection on Friday as London Fashion Week kicked off.

Aksu was one of the first to introduce Fall/Winter 2022 creations, inspired by the 14th century poet Christine de Pizan for his feminine dresses and tailored jackets.

Models strutted down the runway in an assortment of flowing dresses in pink, cream, and various shades of blue. Dresses of taffeta and tulle were ruffled, pleated, layered, decorated with contrasting black ribbons or with puffed sleeves.

They were paired with grunge-style pink shoes and sometimes hats.

“It seems different centuries are converging,” Aksu told Reuters. “There are early Renaissance references and there’s a lot of ’90s vibe with the makeup and the grunge moment and the shoes and everything.”

London Fashion Week, which runs until February 22, began when a storm hit the UK, with the city and other parts of the country experiencing major disruption.

Like its predecessor in New York, the London event, known for showcasing emerging talent, is a mixture of physical performances, performances and gatherings, as well as digital editions.

“We will continue to see this hybrid because designers have already relied on digital film not only to be creative but also to showcase their collections,” British Fashion Council chief executive Caroline Rush told Reuters.

“The future fashion weeks have changed.”
