Passengers saw smoke while boarding. While boarding the flight to Miami, at approximately 1:05 p.m., passengers noticed smoke in the cabin, and reported the fire to the crew.
The plane was evacuated and the San Francisco Fire Department was called.
Passengers were injured during the evacuation. According to San Francisco airport authorities, the three injured people suffered minor injuries not from the fire, but from confusion during the evacuation process.
American Airlines confirms smoke found in notebookThe company said in a statement that the reason for the evacuation was “smoke” from a notebook found in one of the passengers’ luggage.
During boarding of American Airlines flight 2045 on service from San Francisco (SFO) to Miami (MIA), smoke was reported from inside a customer’s bag. Crew members quickly removed the bag and all passengers exited the aircraft. We thank our crew members for their professionalism and apologize to our customers for the inconvenience.
