Astronauts Butch Wilmore and Sonny Williams The planet-dwellers – who are “stuck” in space – have announced that they will not return to Earth until February of next year. NASA Saturday 24. Until then, the duo will remain on the International Space Station (ISS). But after all, what is their routine and is there enough food to stay there that long?

According to NASA, the astronauts know when they go on a mission that these situations can happen. They are retired Navy captains and long-time astronauts with long missions. So they are prepared for adversity.

As they remain in space for another six months, the duo is working on research projects. Among other duties, the station work includes testing techniques for growing plants in space and performing operational tasks to keep the science lab running. In their free time, the crew members often take photos of the dome, according to NASA.

As for food, according to NASA, a US supply ship arrived in early August with additional food. Additionally, as part of the on-site investigation, the astronauts also used a system to grow fresh produce that could be consumed.

What happened?

Astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams were sent on a test flight on June 5, aboard Boeing’s Starliner. During the flight, a number of problems were identified, including malfunctioning thrusters and leaking helium systems. So the way the astronauts will return home is in question.

The initial idea was for the mission to last only a week, but NASA cautions that the astronauts are prepared for unusual events like this and have the supplies to survive as long as necessary. In addition, resources such as internet access are available to Wilmore and Williams.*With information from Estadão Conteúdo)
