The Mayor of Recife, João Campos (PSB), announced the creation of the Municipal Secretariat for Science and Technology. According to the director, the new administration, which will be responsible for providing digital services in the municipality, will implement free internet service in all parks and squares in the city.
The announcement was made by the mayor in a post on Instagram on Friday (29). The newly created department was part of the Economic Development Secretariat, which was dismantled. Rafael Figueiredo, Executive Secretary for Digital Transformation, will assume secretariat duties.
At the inauguration ceremony of the new secretary, João Campos said that the secretariat's first goal is to complete the installation of free internet in the squares by the end of 2024.
Currently, according to the city council, the service is available in 14 entertainment venues; Among them are Parque da Jaquera, Praca do Derby, Praca da Repubblica and Marco Zero.
Required by g1He informed the city council that the establishment of the Secretariat of Science and Technology aims to facilitate residents' access to public services, manage the Conecta Recife platform, in addition to seeking to expand the participation of scientists and entrepreneurs in finding solutions for the city.
According to the municipal administration, the institution will consist of the Executive Secretariat for Digital Transformation and the Municipal Information Technology Company (Imbril).
