On Wednesday, the 17th of this month, the Italian journalist Julia Cortese was ordered to pay 5,000 euros (about 30,000 Brazilian reals) to the Italian Prime Minister, Georgia Meloni.
The court’s decision was prompted by defamatory posts published in 2021 on Twitter/X. Information from the newspaper La Repubblica.
Julia Cortez released posts that included a montage of the governor with a picture of fascist leader Benito Mussolini in the background.
In response, Georgia used her profile on Facebook To denounce the seriousness of the post, and classify it as a “fake photo” taken by a journalist.
The journalist also mocked Giorgia Meloni’s height.
After Giorgia’s criticism, the journalist responded with more offensive posts. One read: “The media circus you created on your Facebook page against me qualifies you for what you are: a little woman.”
“You don’t scare me, Georgia Meloni,” he wrote in another post. “Besides, you’re 1ft 20in. I don’t even see you.”
The prime minister’s exact height has not been revealed. In the media, it ranges between 1.58 m and 1.63 m. In the ruling, the judge in the case classified the journalist’s tweet as an episode of body shame.

Meloni’s lawyer said any money raised in the process would be donated to charity. Julia Cortese can still appeal the court decision.
