The two videos recorded by Israeli soldiers are among dozens of sites showing soldiers in Gaza modeling lingerie, models and, in some cases, both. The underwear photos were viewed tens of thousands of times – nearly half a million times in one case – after being reposted by Younis Al-Tirawi, who describes himself as a Palestinian reporter.
In response to a question about the photos he reposted to his more than 100,000 followers on X between February 23 and March 1, Al-Tirawi provided links to the original posts by IDF soldiers. Reuters then independently verified eight images posted on Instagram or YouTube.
“Publishing such images is insulting to Palestinian women and all women,” said Ravina Shamdasani, spokeswoman for the UN Human Rights Office.
Reuters sent details of the eight verified posts on YouTube or Instagram to the Israeli military, seeking comment.
In response, an army spokesperson sent a statement saying that the IDF is investigating incidents that deviate from orders and values expected of IDF soldiers, as well as video reports uploaded to social media.
He said: “In cases where criminal suspicions arise that justify opening an investigation, the military police will open an investigation.”
