In recent days, the Israeli government has resumed its offensive, focusing mainly on the southern regions, which is precisely the area that is so far considered the safest. The result, according to the United Nations, was a record number of displaced people, with 85% of Gaza’s population affected – 1.9 million people.
One of the families already affected by the Israeli attack on southern Gaza is the family of Hassan Rabie, a Brazilian who managed to enter the first evacuation wave in the area and now lives in Brazil. But he left behind his mother and sisters, who do not have a Brazilian passport. Now they have been included in the second list prepared by the government and handed over to the Israeli authorities.
But in recent days, Israeli tanks have been at the door of his home in Khan Yunis. They managed to escape and found themselves in a state of humanitarian chaos.
There was hope in the Brazilian government that as the truce lasted for about a week, places to evacuate people on the second list would be created. But the resumption of attacks undermined the chances of an immediate exit.
In total, more than sixty people live in this situation, while President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has used all his meetings with the leaders of the region to search for a way out for these Palestinians and Brazilians.
With the new attack, the families hope that the critical situation will put more pressure on the government to seek a solution for those left behind in Gaza.
