Isaac Queiroz: ‘I take the weight off my shoulders’ – 08/09/2024 – Sports

“It’s a feeling of relief, happiness, a lot of happiness,” Isaacías Queiroz said in an interview with SporTV after winning the silver medal in speed rowing at the Olympics.

“You all know that 2023 was not an easy year for me,” he said. “It was the year that I realized what it means to not be a world champion, to not be a super athlete, to be a human being with mental, personal and physical problems, and I had the opportunity to feel that feeling and I had the opportunity to reconnect, to be able to get here, to be an Olympic champion for me.”

“It’s a weight I’m lifting off my shoulders,” he said. “A lot of people didn’t believe in me in 2023.” He also said his coach, Lauro de Souza Junior, had to “turn 30” to get him to walk. “I arrived in the national team last April and I had to run a lot to get here in good shape.”

The athlete also stated that the race he did deserved a gold medal for him, but he was happy to be on the podium. Isaaccias started the race in fifth place and eventually finished second behind Martin Fuksa of the Czech Republic.

Now, he takes the medal as a gift to his sons and nephews, who, he says, have their birthdays in August.

He also expressed his regret at not winning a medal in the final as a pair in the sprint rowing. “It’s not easy to stay off the podium, Jack. [Goodman] it serves him right.”

Isaacías, who carried the Brazilian flag at the opening ceremony, said he was proud to “represent Bahia and my entire country in Paris.”
