Instagram users reported that their accounts were banned on Monday 31. According to them, when accessing the profile on the social network, the application directs the application to a screen informing about the suspension of the account, with information to appeal the decision. Instagram has yet to explain what could be causing the problem as of this writing.
According to DownDetector, which monitors activities on social networks, the photo platform has registered a large number of complaints since 9:50 am and may have affected more than 7,000 users worldwide. On Twitter, many users share photos of suspended accounts, saying that the social network is giving 30 days to appeal the decision.
According to reports, there was no notice or notification from Instagram regarding any necessary updates to the social network’s registration before the profiles were blocked. Accounts were affected in many countries, including Brazil.
In addition, users whose accounts were not suspended saw a decrease in the number of followers and following profiles on the social network. In connection with the report, Instagram reiterated the statement sent by Twitter and said it was already aware of the issue.
A spokesperson for Meta, which owns Instagram, said, “We are aware that some people are having difficulties accessing their Instagram accounts. We are investigating and apologize for the inconvenience.”
