INPE participates in the 76th Annual Meeting of the SBPC – National Institute for Space Research

The National Institute for Space Research (INPE) was one of the entities attending the conference. 76th Annual Meeting of the Brazilian Association for the Advancement of ScienceWhich was held last week, between July 7 and 13, at the Federal University of Para (UFPA) campus in Guam, in Belém/Pennsylvania. This year, the theme of the SBPC meeting was ““Science for a Sustainable and Inclusive Future: For a New Social Contract with Nature” It included a scientific program consisting of conferences, round tables, panel discussions, mini-web courses and poster sessions, as well as activities in the SBPC Cultural and SBPC Jovem environments.

Both at the opening of the 76th Annual Meeting of the SBPC, held on July 7 at the Teatro da Paz, and in the activities on the first day of the event at the UFPA, INPE was represented by the General Coordinator of the Regulatory Administration (CGGO), Leandro Tos Hoffman. On both occasions, Minister Luciana Santos highlighted in her speeches the role of INPE in the scientific and technological development of Brazil, emphasizing the importance of Brazilian society’s programs for monitoring deforestation and burning in Brazilian biomes and the progress the country has made in accessing space, specifically referring to the CBERS-6 satellite, announced in April during President Lula’s visit to China, which will be equipped with a synthetic aperture radar payload, with which it will be possible to monitor deforestation and fires in any climatic conditions.

At the INPE stand, which, like other units linked to the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI), was located in the tent Expo T&CThe public could learn more about the Institute’s areas of activity and its importance to Brazilian society, with a focus on research in space sciences, the satellites developed by the Institute, deforestation and fire monitoring programs, weather and climate forecasting, as well as postgraduate programs. Students, teachers, researchers and the people of Pará in general passed by with a large presence of families and children.
