Indiana Jones can’t be a shooter.

MachineGames is known for its really exciting and frantic shooters, but Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is a different game, as the producer decided to stay true to what he considers the essence of the famous professor and archaeologist.

Jens Andersson, design director at MachineGames, spoke to PCGamer at Gamescom about the new game in the popular series, in a conversation in which he explained that “Indiana Jones, he’s not a gunslinger, is he?”

“So I can never be a shooter, and I should never be a shooter. But hand-to-hand combat, that makes perfect sense. Anderson added..

“He’s not a fighter, that’s not his nature, even if he ends up getting into fights all the time. He’s an unpredictable, lucky hero, how do we recreate that in gameplay, make the player feel that mood, how do we convey that?

Even in the direct combat between Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, you feel like he’s not a combat expert, Anderson says, “It’s more like a chaotic, almost chaotic, picking up pots and pans to hit people over the head with.”

MachineGames also shared that Indiana Jones and the Great Circle will be divided into linear areas and more open areas where you can explore and figure out how to reach objectives, but it will also have a strong stealth component. This gameplay element isn’t just about ducking through scenarios, you’ll have opportunities to get disguises and reach objectives in an alternate way.
