35 year old man Playing the saxophone while walking across a Brain surgery This week in a hospital in Rome, in Italia. The patient was identified as GZ, and was under the care of the medical team at Paidea International Hospital.
The surgical procedure, which was intended to remove the tumor, took nine hours to complete. In an official statement from the hospital, neurosurgeon Christian Brugna, responsible for the procedure, reported that the tumor was completely removed, without compromising the patient’s neurological functions.
The doctor also talked about the benefits of performing brain surgery while awakening the patient. “Every brain is unique, as is every person. Mindfulness surgery allows you to very precisely map, during surgery, the networks of neurons related to different brain functions – such as playing, talking, moving, remembering, and counting.”
The operation, which was performed in Italy, had a multidisciplinary team of professionals from all over the world, according to Paidea International Hospital.
“Each surgical procedure while awake not only allows you to get the maximum result in terms of removing pathology, but is also a real discovery. Each offers us a window into the workings of this wonderful but in many ways mysterious organ, the brain.”
