Surgery to remove the breast was necessary because, in addition to the nodules being very large, the first biopsies were inconclusive about Carolina’s true status. It is not common for breast cancer to affect younger women under the age of forty, but the condition of the designer requires additional attention.

“The fact that I had to have a mastectomy without having a baby, and without breastfeeding, scared me at the time, and I cried a lot. But I had breast reconstruction done right away, so I wasn’t surprised to wake up without it. What stood out to me was the loss of sensitivity, swelling and scarring. Cancer is not a sentence

Now 37, Karolina is a former cancer patient, but she describes this journey as a fun-filled one.

After also facing suspected thyroid cancer and undergoing a mastectomy, she had to deal with a relapse, which is when the disease reappears.. The tumor returned in the same breast and she needed chemotherapy, new surgery, radiation therapy and hormone therapy during an eight-year journey.
