Tornado kills and injures dozens in Oklahoma, US
Three people, including a four-month-old baby, were killed in a tornado that hit Oklahoma (USA) this weekend. Dozens of people were injured.
This Sunday (28), more than 7 million Americans are under storm warnings.
Thunderstorm warnings for high winds, heavy rain and hail were issued by the National Weather Service for more than 47 million people from Texas east to Illinois and Wisconsin.
Unsettled weather is expected to continue across Madhya Pradesh till Monday.
Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt declared a “state of emergency” and released more funding for first responders and recovery efforts. In a video message posted on social media, the governor said he will inspect the damage caused by the storm this Sunday.
The worst storms hit central Oklahoma Saturday into Sunday morning and spread into northwest Texas and western Missouri and Kansas, the National Weather Service said.
The deaths were reported by the Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management, which also reported more than 30 injuries and dozens of homes destroyed or damaged.
Amid downed trees, downed power lines and debris-strewn roads, the agency warned that the toll of destruction was yet to be assessed.
