Hip-hop is the second most popular genre of music on Spotify, with a 68% growth in consumption over the past three years globally. As of 2023, approximately ¼ of all Spotify streams worldwide is hip-hop.
Today, worldwide, there are more than 53 million playlists, including editorial playlists and user-created playlists that mention hip-hop or rap, and more than 2 billion that contain at least one hip-hop song.
Based on the period from January to July this year, Brazil is the third largest consumer of hip-hop music, behind only the United States and Mexico. Today, the genre has 23% of Spotify’s total plays in the country, with a 140% increase in streams since 2020.
Spotify’s Trapperz Brasil and Cream Brazilian playlists are among the world’s top 10 hip-hop/rap playlists on the platform. RapCaviar, the most listened to playlist of this genre and the second with the largest number of followers in the world, Brazil ranked fifth in terms of consumption of its tracks.
