2024 is only a few weeks away The Eurovision Song Contest begins in Malmö, Sweden.

The competition is being held in the Scandinavian country after singer Lauren won first place in Liverpool last year with her song Tattoo.

While more than 100,000 fans are expected to come to the city, more than 160 million fans are expected to watch the match from home.

Flying the Union Jack is Olly Alexander, whose chances of winning are increasing.

36 other actors will take the stage with him from May 7 to 11.

Ahead of the event, here's a rundown of the most important details you need to know to experience the excitement of the world's biggest singing competition!

When is Eurovision 2024? It happened?

The Eurovision 2024 Grand Final will take place on Saturday 11 Maywith The semi-final matches will be held on Tuesday, May 7 and Thursday, May 9.

A total of 37 countries will participate in this year's competition, six of which automatically qualify for the finals.

These six are the “Big Five” of France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom, as well as last year's winner of the award, Sweden.

The other semi-final nations will compete for a place in the grand final with the top 10 nations in each semi-final.

This will also be the year that Luxembourg returns to the competition, 31 years after its last participation in 1993, while Romania has chosen not to participate.

The city of Malmö, which won the exhibition against Stockholm and Gothenburg, will host the event.

Sweden will host the tournament for the seventh time, after it was previously held in 1975, 1985, 1992, 2000, 2013 and 2016.

The main venue is the 15,500-seat Malmö Arena.

Who are the lecturers?

The three live Eurovision shows will be hosted by Petra Mede and Malin Åkerman. The former previously held this position in 2013 and 2016.

Petra, 54, is a Swedish comedian, dancer, actress and TV presenter.

She presented with Måns Zelmerlöw Eurovision 2013 in Malmö and Eurovision 2016 in Stockholm, and also has her own show called Petra Mede Show.

He is joined by Swedish-born Malin, 45, known for her roles in hit Hollywood films such as The Heartbreak Kid and 27 Dresses.

When it was announced that they would be hosting, Malin said: “I can't describe my feelings about it.”

“I'm very excited and a little nervous, but in a positive way. I've always loved Eurovision, and to be part of this amazing show with Petra is a dream come true. Petra is also one of the funniest women I've ever met,” he said.

Who is entering England?

Representing the UK this year is Olly Alexander, who has achieved international success as the lead singer of Years & Years, with three hit albums (two of which reached number one in the UK Albums Chart) and 10 singles in the UK Top 40 . What is with you.

However, he is now striking out on his own, making his first solo project by participating in Eurovision.

Olly co-wrote the Eurovision song Dizzy with Danny L Harle, who also co-wrote and produced the Dua Lipa film Houdini.

He previously explained that the song “is about feeling an influx of emotions so intense that it completely turns your world upside down.”

The artist has also appeared on the big screen, starring in director Russell T Davies' brilliant and devastating drama It's a Sin, about a group of friends living in the shadow of the AIDS crisis, for which he won a National Television Award.

How to watch

All three live shows – the semi-finals and the grand final – will again be broadcast live on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

The semi-final matches will be held on May 7 and 9, while the grand final will be held on Saturday, May 11.

The semi-finals will be presented by commentators Scott Mills and Rylan and will be broadcast from 8pm on their respective days.

The grand final will be held The series, presented by Graham Norton, will be broadcast on Saturday evening at eight o’clock in the evening.

On BBC Radio 2 and BBC Sounds, Richie Anderson will take control for the first time and will provide broadcast commentary.

With two weeks to go, Switzerland is currently the favorite to win this year's Eurovision Song Contest.

It is followed by Croatia, the Netherlands, Italy, Ukraine, Israel, France, Greece and Ireland, while England is in the top ten.
