Help a young biologist do science in the Caribbean

Hello, my name is Duda, I am a biologist and I am currently studying for my master’s degree at UFSC, where I study the ecology of octopuses 🐙. Today, I came to ask for your help to make a big dream come true.

I received a very special invitation from SFS Marine Resources Studies Centeran American university located in Turks and Caicos, an island nation in the Caribbean. They have invited me to visit the institution where I will lecture, participate in field groups, and assist with classroom dynamics. In addition, I will have the opportunity to learn from renowned teachers. They are providing me with accommodation and food for the duration of my stay.

This is a great opportunity for my academic and professional development, but the costs of accessing this opportunity are beyond my budget as a student. The country where the university is located is small and requires a visa, and travel between the islands is very expensive. That is why I am organizing this campaign to try to make this dream come true!

Below are the main expected costs:

  • 300 Brazilian Reals – Bus ticket (round trip from Florianopolis to Sao Paulo)
  • 7250 Brazilian Real – Airline ticket (round trip from Sao Paulo to Turks and Caicos Islands)
  • 1000 Brazilian Real – US Visa (required to enter Turks and Caicos Islands)
  • 1,150 Brazilian Real – Boat ticket (round trip between Grand Turk and South Caicos)

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Donations from 20 Brazilian RealsYou will be competing for an exclusive print copy of the Brazilian Octopus Identification Guide, which was written based on my research for TCC. And if you can’t contribute financially, sharing this vakinha also makes a big difference!

Thank you so much in advance for supporting my dream and journey as a scientist. 💙
