Google updates Android Auto with more apps and streaming support

Google announced an update on Wednesday (15) to Android Auto, its platform for connected cars. The new version of the software offers more app options and screen transfer support as notable features, as part of the company’s presentation during I/O 2024.

Among the new apps included are Max and Peacock, two streaming services from brands including Polestar, Volvo and Renault. Between matches, there will be a famous arrival Angry birds. Both video and gaming platforms can only be used when the car is parked.

Cars equipped with the Android Automotive operating system will also feature Google Cast in the upcoming update. This will allow the user to transfer content from mobile phones and tablets to the car’s screen. The first to receive will be Rivian models, while other brands will be honored in the future.

Another announcement is the arrival of more tools aimed at developers, who will also have access to new software to transform existing mobile applications into car-adapted experiences. The intention of this initiative is to facilitate the creation of more applications for in-car use.

Moreover, the Mountain View giant also announced that the Android Automotive operating system is present in more than 200 million cars and has become the standard among car operating systems.
