Lucas Verissimo wants to leave Benfica

Lucas Verissimo wants to return to Brazil. One possible destination is Flamengo, who want to rely on a defender. To try to advance the player, Rubro-Negro outlined the form of proposal with Benfica (POR): loan. The club has yet to make the offer, but has already outlined a strategy to move the negotiations forward.

The form is similar to the one used to sign Gabigol and Pedro. Flamengo signed the strikers on loan, and a year later made purchases with Inter Milan (ITA) and Fiorentina (ITA), respectively.

Lucas Verissimo is requested by Jorge Sampaoli. The duo worked together at Santos, in 2019, when they won the Brazilian runner-up, behind only Flamengo, by Jorge Jesus. The defender was sold to Benfica, in 2020, for R$41 million (€6.5 million, at the time). GE released information on Fla’s strategy by the defender.

The athlete will turn 28 next Sunday, July 2, and was part of the Brazilian national team before the World Cup in Qatar. But a serious right knee injury he suffered in November 2021 ended the defender’s dream. With then-coach Tite, the defender played in qualifying matches as a starter.

Flamengo want to send an offer to Lucas Verissimo after resolving the issues with Alan and moving forward with Claudinho. With the steering wheel, the announcement could happen at any time, after the club has clinched its final payment points with Atlético-MG. Now everything is lined up with the midfielder, it remains to persuade Zenit (Russia) to accept the offer.

At the moment, Flamengo has six defenders in the team: Fabricio Bruno, Leo Pereira, David Luiz, Rodrigo Cayo, Pablo and Clayton. However, Jorge Sampaoli was only using the first three. Rodrigo Caio and Pablo could still be negotiated in the next transfer window, in July, when the boy could be loaned from Ninho.
