According to Hamaguchi, Square Enix wanted to expand on the original version of Final Fantasy VII to create a deeper, more expansive world of parallel content in the remake trilogy.
“In Rebirth, we’ve added some city types like the Crow’s Nest – brand new cities that didn’t exist in the original – to dig deeper and create this whole worldviewHamaguchi said.We reach this area after completing the mission and then this place opens. The residents already know that Cloud and the group are part of Avalanche“.
Crow’s Nest is a sister city to Under Junon, found in the original 1997 game, which shares a similar Anti-Shinra vibe that players will seemingly only encounter if they explore beyond the main story.
“Part of the game design we adopted for Rebirth is that in the main story you will rescue Yuffie and Under Junon, head towards Junon and then head towards Costa del SolHamaguchi said.
“But, for example, when you hear stories of anti-Shinra people living in Under Junon, you might think, “What about the Crow’s Nest region I hear about?” Maybe I want to go there and explore and go on a side adventure on my own to save people. We want players to be able to live these different adventures and plan their own journeys according to their interests“.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth It will be released on February 29, 2024 on PlayStation 5.
