Final days to collect your PIS allowance; Know the value and deadline

In 2023, the issue that generated a lot of interest was the launch of the salary bonus, covering both PIS and Pasep, for the base year 2021. People who met the conditions for this bonus were able to see the additional money in their accounts this year. However, it is necessary to highlight that the payment date depends on the benefit to which the worker is entitled: PIS, allocated to the private sector, with the payment date corresponding to the worker’s month of birth; and Pasep, aimed at public initiative, for which payment is regulated according to the last digit of the registration. There is also a withdrawal deadline that must be met to avoid unwanted bureaucratic processes.

The payment of the PIS/Pasep salary bonus is equivalent to workers in the public or private sector who have been in the program for at least five years, whose average income has not exceeded the minimum wage, and who have worked at least 30 days in the year in question. It is essential to have up-to-date information in the Annual Social Information List (RAIS). From 2020 onwards and the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, the salary bonus payment schedule has suffered from delays. In this scenario, still in 2023, the bonus should be paid for 2022, but unfortunately, the bonus is still for 2021. This situation is expected to return to normal next year, with both calendars merging.

What is the deadline for withdrawing PIS/Pasep?

In 2023, it is important to note that the deadline for withdrawing the PIS/Pasep bonus is December 28. After this date, you must request a withdrawal from Caixa (responsible for PIS) or Banco do Brasil (through Pasep), where the institutions keep the funds for up to five years, and later return them to the union.

In fact, a decree was issued releasing PIS/Pasep quotas for those who worked between 1971 and 1988. This amount, which is different from the bonus paid annually, can also be withdrawn by dependents of deceased workers. For consultation, the FGTS application offered the option “Quota Consultation”. However, the maximum limit for receiving these quotas expired on August 5. According to the government, the amount will also be available for up to five years after that date and will then return to the public treasury. Therefore, it is necessary to pay attention to the information in order to receive what is due to you within the deadline set by law.

How is the value of the PIS/Pasep 2023 bonus calculated?

The amount received via bonus is proportional to the time worked in the reference year. Therefore, only those who worked all year would receive the full minimum wage. Those who have worked a shorter period will need to calculate the amount based on their working time. To clarify, someone who dedicated just one month to work would receive 1/12 of that amount.
