UFV has performed excellently in the periodic evaluation of the postgraduate courses released on Monday (12) by the Coordination of Higher Education Personnel Improvement (Capes). from 45 Postgraduate Programs (PPGs) narrow narrow offered by the university, 17 progress in the four-year evaluation. Of those, three reached the maximum score for the first time, 7, in addition to the other five who maintained the same concept. As a result, approximately one third of PPGs from UFV are considered internationally.
The result refers to the period 2017/2020 and the programs have been eagerly awaited, as Capes revised the assessment system and expanded the requirements for completing reports in 2019, requiring rapid adaptation of the programmes.
PPGs in veterinary medicine, agricultural microbiology, and nutritional sciences have advanced to the extreme. Forestry and Food Science and Technology programs have evolved from grade 5 to 6. Seven more progress from 4 to 5 and four have increased from 3 to 4 in the Capes concept. It should be noted that for PPGs that only offer a master’s degree, the maximum score is 5. Also good news for PPGs in Ecosystem Management and Conservation, at the Florestal Campus, and Vegetable Production, in Rio Paraníba, which advanced from 3 to Note 4. According to For heads, the score is raw with an unlocking of resources. Therefore, there is still potential for further succession.
Since 2019, and with the changes in assessment criteria, the Dean of Research and Graduate Studies has organized working groups to support course coordinators in completing reports, an essential task of assessment. According to the brigadier general, Raul Narciso Guedes, the CCs were able to adapt well to the changes imposed by the Capes, which were fundamental to the end result. “The good performance in all courses is practically unprecedented in the history of UFV since the beginning of the assessments. Our challenge is to maintain what has been achieved, as we are now already in the period of consolidating these new assessment criteria,” said the Rector.
Also according to Raúl Guedes, the Dean’s office is committed to cooperating with programs in the process of internationalization and alumni monitoring, elements that are part of the requirements for the new Capes. “If before that the focus was on the productivity of supervisors, the professional success and scientific production of researchers trained by the institutions is of great importance and we will find ways to follow up, as well as to encourage more participation of students and professors in the networks of international research institutions,” said the rector. The Dean’s Office will also direct the improvement of programs that can still progress to the next evaluation.
