Fapt supports participation of female scientists in the 3rd SBPC Science and Women Award from SBPC Carolina Bori – Emerged

With the aim of valuing and highlighting Brazilian researchers and encouraging girls to take an interest in the scientific career, the Brazilian Society for the Advancement of Science (SBPC) is promoting the third edition of the “Carolina Bori Science & Woman” award. The state government, through the Tocantins Research Support Foundation (Fapt), encourages the participation of Tocantins scholars in this award, because they believe in their potential and competence, for both women and girls.

Three winners will be awarded in the Women’s and Girl’s Science categories in each of the three main knowledge areas: Humanities; biological and health; engineering and earth sciences. The “Scientists” category is for researchers from national institutions who have made relevant contributions to science and scientific management, in addition to undertaking work for the benefit of national science and technology. In order to register the nominees for the awards, it will be necessary to send the following documents: an updated mini-curriculum Vitae of the candidate (up to 500 characters, with space); Update the candidate’s CV on the Lattes platform (connection), a letter of recommendation based on evidence justifying the award (up to 2000 characters, with spaces).

The category of Girls, Future Scientists, will be awarded to those with promising and notorious scientific talent, i.e. students who aspire to enter this wonderful world of scientific research, who are studying in high school and university, and whose research is about starting scientific research. It was developed with the participation of a consultant, in order to demonstrate creativity, good application of the scientific method and potential contribution to science in the future.

In this “Girls in Science” category, interested parties should present the implemented scientific project or activity, explaining its importance and development, goals achieved and their suitability. Documentation should confirm what the student has done, outlining counselor support. It is important to document documentedly the student’s participation and performance in scientific activities such as fairs, Olympics, etc. In this way, the jury will assess the quality of the project, creativity, depth, application of the scientific method, skills and capabilities of each candidate.

Awards will be announced until January 20, 2022. The award ceremony for the winners is scheduled for February 11, 2022, during the annual event held by the SBPC, almost initially, if measures are still necessary for social distancing to contain the coronavirus epidemic, or in person, in Salão Nobre of the Maria Antonia University Center at the University of the South Pacific, in São Paulo, if health safety conditions are re-established.

According to the notice, the Carolina Bori Science & Woman Award shall consist of a plaque, which will be the award mark, edited with a graphic indication identifying Carolina Bori, the name of the award, along with the name of the winner and the date the award was issued. A diploma and a voucher for airline tickets and national accommodation will also be provided, to allow the winners to participate in the annual meeting of the Brazilian Association for the Advancement of Science, if health safety conditions are restored and the event can be held in person.

The winners in the “Scientists” category will hold an SBPC conference on the projects they are developing. The winners of the Girls in Science category will, in addition to travel and accommodation, receive a companion, and present their work at a poster session for the SBPC Annual Meeting. It is important to remember that the “Carolina Bori Ciência & Mulher” award will be given only once to each winner. In 2029, with the celebration of the tenth anniversary of the establishment of the award, a special ceremony will be held with all the honorees.
