Explanatory note – Flamingo

Tomorrow will mark five years since the greatest tragedy in Flamengo history. We have lost ten young athletes and we cannot – and do not want – to forget that. We must remember our youth forever, every ten minutes of every match and always.

It will be a very difficult day for the families of these 10 young athletes, much to the dismay of all of us and our great fans. It is a day of mourning and asking God for them. A day to show solidarity with families and offer condolences.

The club received several inquiries from many media outlets. In brief, the club says the following:

Since that tragic day, the club has provided full assistance to the families, both psychologically and financially.

After some time, independently of the legal proceedings, the club signed an agreement with nine of the ten families who had fatal victims and with all the survivors. These families considered the compensation amounts fair and accepted them.

The only family that did not accept the agreement receives a monthly pension from the club, regardless of the legal procedures, and Flamengo remains open to reaching a compromise with them, whom they value greatly.

Flamingo has the greatest respect and affection for families, so here we once again express our sincerest feelings to everyone.
