A meeting of the European Parliament in Strasbourg, eastern France, condemned the repeal of Roe V. Wade took away the constitutional right to abortion in America. In reaction to the growing anti-abortion movements in Europe, on Thursday, the 7th, most lawmakers argued that a resolution protecting the safe performance of the procedure should be included in the EU’s Charter of Fundamental Rights.
Stéphane Séjourne, head of the European Parliament’s liberal group Renew Europe, told the meeting that “the US has clearly shown why we must use all tools to protect abortion rights in the EU”.
“This teaches us a lesson: the human rights of women and girls can never be taken for granted, and we must always fight to protect them,” said Helen Fritsen, vice-president of the Parliamentary Alliance of Socialists and Democrats.
