California Gov. Gavin Newsom, a Democrat, has signed a law that bans schools from notifying parents if their children are transgender. Newsom’s stance, in addition to being civil, is a response to a string of states in the United States that have passed laws opposing it, allowing schools to notify parents of LGBT students.
However, businessman Elon Musk, who has a history of supporting organizations that work against civil rights for LGBT people, was outraged by the law’s punishment and made threats to the California governor, including that he would divest his state-owned companies.
“This is the straw that broke the camel’s back,” Musk wrote on his X profile. “Because of this law and many others before it, which attack families and businesses alike, SpaceX will now move its headquarters from Hawthorne, California, to Satabase, Texas.”
In another post, Musk reveals that he has made threats to the California governor. “I made it clear to Governor Newsom about a year ago that laws like this would force families and businesses to leave California to protect their children,” he said.
Gov. Gavin Newsom responded with sarcasm. Citing a post by former President Trump about his partnership with Elon Musk during his time in the White House, the Democrat mocked the Republican for saying he had “kneeled for Elon Musk,” to which Newsom replied, “I will not.”
