Chocolate is one of the heroes of Easter. Whether it is in the form of an egg, a box of bonbons or a bar, this Sunday (9) it will be in many people’s homes. But is chocolate really good for health? Does it bring any benefit? And migraine? Could he be responsible?
First, understand the differences between the types of chocolate:
- white chocolate: It is made by mixing cocoa butter with other ingredients, such as powdered milk and sugar;
- Milk chocolate: It contains about 30% cocoa in its composition.
- bitter chocolate: 60% or more cocoa;
- semisweet chocolate: About 50% cocoa.
Does chocolate have health benefits?
correct. Chocolate comes from cocoa, which contains about 380 different chemicals. Among them, flavonoids – substances with an antioxidant effect that act in cell aging, in the brain, in cardiovascular health and in cholesterol.
“Flavonoids are substances that make us neutralize free radicals. Because they neutralize them, they reduce the chances of cell damage throughout the body: cell aging, neurological damage – the brain is a very active tissue and releases a lot of free radicals. With flavonoids, we were able to prevent this explains nutritionist Lara Natachi.
Chocolate is also able to adjust our mood, bringing a sense of happiness and well-being.
But not everything is so sweet… To find all the substances, chocolate must contain at least 70% cocoa.
🍫 Chocolate causes migraines?
not known yet. Although many studies link chocolate consumption with the onset of headaches, the physiological mechanisms behind this are not scientifically clear.
Chocolate consumption is generally associated with the onset of migraines, a type of headache that can affect more than a billion people worldwide.
However, according to the experts, one must be careful: Certain foods can, yes, trigger migraines, but there is no rule as to what they can or cannot.
“Scientifically, we have a very good side of cocoa, which would be present in chocolate, but on the other hand, we are still not sure how negatively it affects the onset of migraine attacks. It’s still all very contradictory,” Miwa says.
What we need to be careful about is knowing if the crisis is caused by food or if the person actually had a crisis when he ate the food and did not realize it, according to Fabio Porto, a neurologist at the Hospital das Clínicas in São Paulo.
The best way to analyze whether food favors the onset of migraine attacks or is a primary symptom is to keep a diary, where the individual will explain what he ate and how he felt before, during and after consumption.

There are no studies that prove this relationship. Including, as we said above, the cocoa in chocolate is good for health and skin.
However, we know that any food that contains a large amount of fat can upset the lipid and moisture balance in the skin. But chocolate isn’t the biggest culprit.
🍫 Chocolate addicts?
No, but it contains biologically active substances and compounds that bring a feeling of happiness, pleasure and euphoria, with an exciting and exciting action.
“The feeling of pleasure that chocolate generates can have several explanations. Bio-amines, for example, help adjust mood, improving feelings of well-being and happiness,” says the nutritionist.
