Regular consumption of a fermented milk drink can have positive effects on brain function and even reduce the risk of dementia, a study by researchers at APC Microbiome in Ireland has found. Published in the journal Nutritional Neuroscience, the study analyzed adults aged 25 to 45.
The results suggest that this drink increases the presence of beneficial microorganisms in the gut, which improves associative memory in healthy adults. The relationship between the brain and the gut is closely related, and changes in the gut microbiome can affect neural function, leading to behavioral and cognitive changes.
