The USDA on Monday (29/07) released corn crop conditions for the 24/25 harvest in the US. According to the data, 68% of crops are in good and excellent condition, an increase of 1 percent compared to the previous week. Compared to the same period last year and the average over the past five years, North American crops are 13 percentage points and 5 percentage points better, respectively. The information was published in the weekly survey of the Mato Grosso Institute of Agricultural Economics (Imea).

In Iowa, Illinois and Nebraska, the nation’s top producing regions, 77%, 76% and 74% of crops are in good condition, respectively, higher than the same period last harvest. NOAA is predicting more favorable weather in the coming weeks for much of America’s main corn belt.

However, the confirmation of La Niña phenomenon for the cycle raises the alarm for crop growth as climatic factors are decisive for productivity.
