This Tuesday, Corinthians announced the signing of 27-year-old Paraguayan midfielder Matias Rojas. The player signed a three-year contract with Timão.
He will miss tonight’s match, against Universitario do Peru, for the Copa Sudamericana, and must make his debut for Corinthians on Saturday, in a duel against América-MG, in the quarter-finals of the Copa Brasil.
Rojas’ name was published in the Brazilian Football Confederation’s Daily Newsletter (BID) minutes after Timão’s announcement. Thus, it was organized to take part for the first time in national competitions – in the Copa Sudamericana, the player will be able to act only if the team qualifies for the Round of 16.
Matias Rojas arrives in Brazilian football after the expiration of his contract with Racing from Argentina. To get 80% of his economic rights, Timão paid $1.8 million (about R$8.6 million at current exchange rates) between fees and commissions.
Timão overcame competition from other clubs that wanted Paraguay, such as Botafogo.
As the midfielder has been in full action with Racing, coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo is considering using him as soon as possible. Rojas even traveled to Minas Gerais, where Corinthians played two matches last week against América and Atlético. However, Paraguay was unable to act without scoring it.
The midfielder arrived in Brazil on July 1, and the next morning, he went to Itaqueira to visit the New Quimeca Arena. From a room, watch Timão’s 1-0 defeat by Bragantino.

Rojas was not signed up earlier because Corinthians were waiting for the Certificate of International Transfer (CIT) to be issued by Racing, which happened on Tuesday.
Paraguay is Corinthians’ first signing in the second half. The club intends to have at least two or three reinforcements, for defence, midfield and attack.
