Contract until 2027 and a salary ten times higher: the Greek press sees Vagiannidis as “99% closed” with Botafogo

Only a major shift will prevent it. Georgios Vagiannidis Don’t be a player BotafogoThis is how the Greek portal “Sport24”, one of the largest websites in the country, deals with negotiations with the team’s right-back. Panathinaikos.

According to the news published on Monday (22/7), the deal is already “99% done”. There was a video conference meeting on Monday and Panathinaikos asked for 48 hours to give a final response.

However, Sport24 says that negotiations will only happen if Vagiannidis doesn’t want to – which seems highly unlikely. Botafogo’s offer to the Greek club is €6.5m (R$39.4m at current prices).

The issue that needs to be resolved at the moment is the share that Panathinaikos and his former club Inter Milan will receive. According to Sport24, the Greeks will receive 65% (€4.225 million, or R$25.6 million) and the Italians 35% (€2.275 million, or R$13.8 million).

Contract until 2027 and 10-fold salary increase

Sport24 also detailed Botafogo’s offer for Vagiannidis. The 22-year-old full-back, appointed by coach Artur Jorge, will sign a three-and-a-half-year contract with Glorioso, until December 2027.

Furthermore, Vagiannidis will receive a salary around ten times what he earns at Panathinaikos. The total offer is €3.2 million (R$19.4 million) (around R$460,000 per month), with a €10,000 (R$60,000) win bonus, title prizes, airline tickets, insurance and housing assistance.

Vagiannidis has already attracted interest from Hoffenheim from Germany and Toulouse from France, but the Greek portal highlights that neither club has sent Panathinaikos values similar to those offered by Botafogo – and they will not be able to come close to what Glorioso is offering for the player.
